    Scanners for EHR

We would like to start scanning EOB's, Ins forms, etc. in our billing department but we have not set up EHR.  Does anyone have any suggestions on a scanner, or at least specs for a scanner, that we can purchase now and integrate with EHR once we have decided on a software product.

    Thanks, Cindy

Please see David Ginsbergs response to your question.

Look first to larger companies like Xerox, Panasonic, Minolta, Canon, etc who offer “document management” systems. There really isn’t any compatible system issues as most good EMRs will accept a scanned image in one of the major formats like TIFF or PDF files or they allow for storing such an image. Even the cheapest scanners come with software to create such images but the more expensive document management systems incorporate scanning, improved copying, faxing into one workcenter that interfaces with your Windows network and of course most good EMRs.

    Dawn,

Where is that response from David.  Also this question comes out of our site visit as one of the items that we are moving forward with.  Even before we select an EHR system.

The response from David is prior to your message.  It contains the company names such as Xerox, etc.

I apologize if the format was a little confusing.

    Thanks,
    Dawn
